Chicken vs. Beef Tacos
I know chicken verses beef for tacos is a highly debated topic. In my family, we were all about beef for years. But we have switched to chicken and will never go back. There is something about tender shredded chicken that pairs perfectly with your favorite taco shell.

Chicken Business
Now to get down to the chicken business. Personally, I think a crockpot makes the most tender chicken. So, grab your crockpot and boneless skinless chicken breasts, and we will get to work. I love throwing all my ingredients in the crockpot, and letting it do all the work for me.
I add about 2 pounds of chicken breasts into my crockpot. Then add salt and pepper, 3 packets of my favorite taco seasoning, and 1-2 cups of chicken broth. Oh, and I almost forgot my secret ingredients. A jar of salsa and 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire. These will give your chicken extra flavor, and also extra moisture.
Now put the lid on your crockpot and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours. You can check every hour, or so, to make sure there is plenty of liquid in your chicken, adding more broth, if needed. Make sure the chicken is fork tender and cooked through before turning off the crockpot.
The Best Part of Chicken Tacos
Once your chicken is cooked, now it is time for the best part. You guessed it, it is time to shred the chicken. My favorite tip for shredding chicken is using a hand mixer. You literally just use the regular beaters on a low speed, and it will shred your chicken in no time, right in the crockpot.
All that is left to do is to grab your taco shells, add the chicken, and stuff them with your favorite taco ingredients. Yum. The Best Shredded Chicken for Tacos
- Crock Pot
- Hand Mixer
- 2 pounds Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
- 1-2 cups Chicken Broth
- 1 Jar Salsa
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 3 packets Taco Seasoning
Put Chicken in Crockpot, with all other ingredients
Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours
I recommend using less broth, and add in more if the chicken starts to look dry
Once chicken is fork tender and cooked through, use a hand mixer to shred
Add to your favorite taco ingredients and enjoy!
