What is Chicken Gravy made of?

Chicken Gravy is a topping typically made with broth or drippings from meat. You do not technically need meat drippings, but this will add to the flavor and richness.

The color of your gravy really depends on the liquid you use. You can use milk for a light gravy color, or a darker broth to make a darker colored gravy. It all depends on the flavor, and color you prefer.

What makes Gravy Thicker?

The key to making a good gravy is all about the texture. If you are having trouble getting your gravy to thicken. You can always make a slurry using water and flour or cornstarch. By slowly adding your slurry into the gravy, you can easily thicken the texture.

Cornstarch versus Flour for Chicken Gravy

The great debate rather cornstarch or flour is better to thicken gravy is really a personal preference. It usually does require less cornstarch to thicken, but sometimes flour is more readily available.

What ever your choice remember, especially when making a slurry, to go slow. You can always add more, but you do not want to over thicken.

This easy chicken gravy is a sauce that you can add to so many dishes. Heck, I can eat it all by itself, by the spoonful. It’s that good.
