Fall Garden
After a busy Summer Garden, we wanted to give ourselves a break with the Fall Garden. There were a few plants still putting off from summer, and a just couple of things we knew we wanted to grow for fall.
First of all, I knew I wanted pumpkins, but I also knew I planned late in the game. However, I cannot be told what to do, so I planted them anyway. About 3 weeks late to be exact, and crossed my fingers the frost would go easy on me. I really wanted pumpkins for my front porch before Halloween.
For Halloween, I had quite a few large, green pumpkins. Still on the vine, not my front porch. I opted to leave them on the vine to see if any would ripen enough to make a pie for Thanksgiving, stay tuned.
Second, we knew my family wanted turnips. The turnips were planted right on time, and really took off beautifully. *Fun fact* I have never tried turnips, and still l have not. If you have a good turnip recipe let me know.
Last, but not least, was all the summer plants that we were still harvesting. We have quite a bit of smaller tomatoes still coming off, tons of peppers, and some small carrots. The carrots are my personal favorite, and were totally worth the wait. Check out my glazed carrot recipe if you are looking for a perfectly sweet side dish.
This was our first year doing a larger scale garden, and I would say it was a success. We have definitely learned a lot, and have tons of ideas for spring and summer coming up.
