Fresh Fruit Salad

Fresh Fruit Salad is one of the most underrated dishes, but let me tell you, it is wonderful. When I think of fruit salad, I always think of the canned version my great grandma used to make. Canned fruit salad is definitely not a kids highlight at the holidays. But my fresh fruit version is a dish that everyone will be fighting over, super fresh, and oh so sweet.

What Kind of Fruit to Use for Fresh Fruit Salad?

The first step is to pick your fruit. You want to pick out your favorites, of course. But you also want to pick fruits that are in season and at the peak of tastiness. For my Fresh Fruit Salad, I went with pineapple, kiwi, oranges, apple and banana. Yum.

Get to Chopping

The hardest part of this fruit salad is the chopping and peeling. But it is so worth it. You could also use pre-cut fresh fruit to save yourself some time. Peel and cube the pineapple, remembering to save the core, we will be using that later.

Then peel and diced the apples and kiwis, trying to make all of the fruits a similar size. I peeled and segmented the oranges, but if that is too much work, I think a can of mandarin oranges would be acceptable. Lastly, peel and slice bananas, but same them to put on at the end.

Fresh Fruit Salad Topping Time

Now it is time to top. First, I squeeze the core of my pineapple over all the fruit to add some sweetness and juice to our fruit salad. Then I add a couple of splashes of maraschino cherry juice. Lastly I place my bananas around the edges, and sprinkle shredded coconut and slivered almonds over the top. Just Perfect.
