Homemade Green Onion Powder
Homemade Green Onion Powder is the perfect simple way to make sure you are using everything inch of your garden.
I always grow plenty of onions because there are all sorts of ways to save them so you can use them all year long. Before you start cooking your onions it is always good to know when is the best time to harvest them. So be sure to check out all of my onion harvesting tips.
Use What You Have
I love fresh green onions, especially in a good cheeseball, but I always end up with way more than I need. I am all about waste not, want not. So when I have given all I can give to friends and family, I love to make Green Onion Powder with what I have left over.
I make mine in the oven using the lowest heat setting I have, which is 170 Fahrenheit. You could also dry your green onions in a dehydrator. I am a big fan of using what you have.
Try to make sure all your onions are roughly the same size so they cook evenly. And let them bake until they are completely dry, but not burnt. This will take several hours depending on how big you slice your onions.
Next, take them out of the oven, and let them cool. Then all that is left to do is grind them up. I personally like to use a mortar and pestle to get my onion powder extra fine.
Now you can bottle up your Homemade Green Onion Powder, and you will never have to buy any from the store again. There is just something about making your own food, or seasonings, that makes it taste extra special. If give my onion powder a try, be sure to tag me on Instagram.
