How to Cook Spaghetti Squash

How to Cook Spaghetti Squash is one of those questions you ask yourself after you have bought two or three at the store. At least this is what I did. You know, you see them sitting in the produce section, and they are only a couple of dollars. And the next thing you know, you are on a mission to eat heathy spaghetti.

Spaghetti Squash Workout

Well, let me tell you, these things are not only a healthier version of spaghetti. They are a workout. Have you ever tried to crack a walnut with your bare hands? Well, that is what is felt like trying to get into this Spaghetti Squash. I never imagined they would be so hard to cut in half. But I’m no quitter, and I managed to cut that thing pretty nice, if I don’t say so myself.

Once you get your squash cut in half, scoop out all the seeds. Makes sure to clear out all the loose stringy bits with the seeds. Now don’t go throwing these seeds in the trash. You can always save the seeds to plant in your garden.

Prepped and Ready to Go

Once your squash is all cleaned out, you can start prepping it for the oven. Make sure to preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Then place both halves with the skin side down on a baking sheet. Drizzle the inside of your squash liberally with olive oil, and plenty of salt and pepper.

Noodles are Neat

Next, pop them in the oven for about an hour, or until they are fork tender in the middle, and the edges start to brown. Now, all that is left to do is use a fork to scrape the insides, and watch the noodles form. It is actually quite neat.

Then you can add your favorite pasta sauce to make a healthy spaghetti right in the squash, and use it as a bowl. Or scoop it out and serve on a plate. Be sure to check back next week to try my Garlic Parmesan Spaghetti Squash. Yum.
