Thrifted Master Bedroom Makeover
I have been collecting items for my Thrifted Master Bedroom Makeover, and I am finally ready for my grand reveal!
Our master bedroom for the house in town has never truly been decorated. I change out the bedding often, but never really settle on anything I love. The decor is usually random leftover items that didn’t make sense in any other room. That being said, I have decided to tackle this room and give it a face lift, on a budget of course.
Paint Color
My main challenge when decorating our bedroom has been the paint color. I used to be terrible at choosing paint colors. I painted this room multiple times, when we first moved in, before settling on this green color. And I refuse to repaint it anytime soon.
Don’t get me wrong, I love color, and love this green, but I have decided the walls are not where I should try to express my love of color. Over the past few years, I have found a couple of neutral grayish tans that I absolutely love, and I’ll tell you why.
My biggest piece of paint advice, and what I have learned works best for me, is going with neutral walls, and using your decor to bring in the color. I love changing things around, and switching out decor. Therefore, when I have neutral walls I can add anything I like, and give my room a makeover much easier.
Where to Start?
First of all, since my wall color was a big factor in choosing decor I went to my nearest Goodwill with green in mind. I immediately spotted a big gold mirror, my inspiration for this room. The rest if the items really just started falling into my cart, or at least that’s what I told my husband. What’s the Theme?
I would say the theme of my master bedroom is neutral gold decor with natural elements, and tons of texture. I like to repurpose things and use them for something unexpected. For example, I like hanging baskets on the the walls to create an interesting piece of art.
I also love to bring the outdoors inside, and I think every room of my house looks a little better with a plant. My favorite plant is my bird of paradise. I have really had good luck with it, and I am not one to baby my plants.
The Bedding
Lastly, I pulled together simple bedding that is pretty, yet still functional for our nightly routine. My husband really hates all my throw pillows, but this set up has really worked for us.
The white throw pillows were in my thrift store haul for $1.00 a piece. They still had the $30.00 tags on them from Pier One! I added a big brown fur blanket under our plain white duvet, and the rest of the pillows are Goodwill finds from years past. All that was left was to strategically place a few throw covers at the foot of the bed, and the rest is history.
This simple makeover really transformed our bedroom into a place too pretty to leave the bed unmade. If that isn’t motivation, I don’t know what is. You will have to stick around and see how long this bed making motivation lasts!
